Editorial Method

How we review products

Every guide on SideMyney is built the same way. This page is the full method — what we check, what we refuse to do, and how to tell us when we got something wrong.

The short version

TL;DR: we shortlist appliances actually sold on Lazada Malaysia, compare the manufacturer's published specifications, apply a buyer-rating threshold, read written reviews for recurring faults, and re-check the live listing price before we publish. We do not run a physical test lab, and we never accept payment for a ranking.

Step 1 — Start from a Malaysian buying question

Each guide begins with a real question a shopper in Malaysia asks: which cordless vacuum has enough suction for tiled floors, which dehumidifier copes with monsoon humidity, which rice cooker fits a condo kitchen. The question decides the criteria, not the other way round.

Step 2 — Shortlist what is actually available here

A product only enters a guide if it can be bought in Malaysia today. We build the shortlist from Lazada Malaysia catalogue listings and the brands with local distribution, so warranty and spare-part support are realistic. Imported models that ship only from overseas warehouses are excluded, and we say so when a popular model is missing for that reason.

Step 3 — Compare published specifications

We build a spec table per guide from the manufacturer's own numbers: suction in pascals, runtime in minutes, motor wattage, tank and drum capacity, filter class, noise level, power draw. Marketing claims that are not backed by a specification are not repeated as fact. Where a brand publishes an inflated figure with no supporting spec, we mark it as a claim, not a measurement.

Step 4 — Apply a buyer-rating threshold

Every pick must clear a store and product rating threshold on Lazada Malaysia (4.5★ and above, with a meaningful number of ratings). We then read written buyer reviews and look for repeated failure patterns — battery swelling, plastic gears stripping, spare parts unavailable after a year, weak suction on carpet. A recurring fault is named in the guide, next to the pick it belongs to.

Step 5 — Validate the listing and the price

Each product link in a guide points at a live Lazada Malaysia listing, and the build fails if a link is missing. Prices move with 9.9, 11.11, payday and year-end sales, so we re-check listings on a weekly cadence and update the guide's "last updated" date when the ranking or a price materially changes. Prices shown are the ones we saw at build time — always confirm on the product page before checkout.

Step 6 — Rank on value, not on commission

Ranking is decided by specification fit, price, and buyer-rating evidence. Affiliate commission rates differ between categories and sellers; they are never an input to a ranking. A product that pays us more does not move up, and a product that pays us nothing is not held back.

What we do not do

Corrections

If a specification in one of our guides is wrong, a listing has gone dead, or a price has moved, tell us at hello@sidemyney.xyz. We read every message, reply within 48 hours, and update the guide — the "last updated" line reflects the real edit date.
